R2R 2010 Fundraising effort

There was an article last month in one of the Jewish newspapers about how schools are now cutting back on funding for special interest education (holocaust & genocide education).

After speaking to many folks and organizations we found that there is a great need for financing such programs. As a follow-up to our last conversation about us creating such a fund in conjunction with the needs of the JMA, I present the following great news:

We have been able to secure with much excitement the assistance of the Illinois Holocaust Museum in the operation of the "Opportunity Grant" to promote holocaust education awareness. The folks at the Museum are thrilled to be hosting our next event and are facinated by the JMA's organization and operation. They are very familiar with what the JMA accomplished in Tennessee and would be proud to help us in creating such an event.

The Opportunity Grant is a perfect match to the JMA's core to encourage participation in activities that promote worthy educational and charitable pursuits that are beneficial to the Jewish Community and the broader non-Jewish community in support of the goals and aspirations of our people by reaching out to communities that wouldn't otherwise be educated on the Holocaust providing an opportunity for the next generation to learn and be inspired.

In order to promote holocaust education awareness the Opportunity Grant would provide much needed funds for schools that cannot otherwise afford field trips to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and access to holocaust education programs.
Note: Donations to the Illinois Holocaust Museum will be used for funding public school access to Holocaust education at as many schools in the museum's geographic region as possible. These Opportunity Grants meet the goals of the JMA to (1) promote Holocaust education in communities where there may not be any or very limited resources for this purpose and (2) raise the awareness of these communities to the existence of the JMA and its member clubs.
The Opportunity Grants also ties in with the Holocaust Museum's own motto to "Remember the Past, Transform the Future", by creating a network of newly Holocaust-conscious students who may be then inspired to practice and promote tolerance toward every minority group. The Holcaust Museum will promote and administer the Opportunity Grants among eligible schools.
IF JMA member club donations reach the Museum’s customary standards for a “major donation” ($100,000+), it will add a permanent commemorative plaque for the Jewish Motorcyclists Alliance to its Major Donor Wall.
